01/29/2026 -US Region- LibAnswers/LibChat DDOS - [Service Restored/Monitoring servers]

01/29/2026 - US Region - 2:56PM ET - LibAnswers/LibChat Service has been restored. The cause of the service disruption has been identified as a Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attack. The DDoS attack has now been successfully blocked, allowing service to be restored. The Springshare Server team will continue monitoring our servers for any abnormal traffic patterns. Thank you for your patience as we addressed these issues!

01/29/2026 - 1:55PM ET - US Region - LibAnswers/LibChat Service Disruption / 502 Errors - We are seeing a large traffic spike that is impacting the US Region servers resulting in slow load times and 502 errors when accessing LibAnswers/LibChat. The Springshare Servers team is currently at work to resolve these issues.

Important: This will impact load times for pages that include embedded LibAnswers widgets.

This is also impacting LibGuides too it seems. Guides are spinning for us.

It takes a while for our homepage to load, and when it does it loads without the chat widget. Assuming the two are related.

@alainadowd @rguillen We are actively monitoring the LibGuides servers and are not seeing any issues at this time. However, if you are accessing guide pages that include LibAnswers widgets, any issues you’re experiencing would be related to the current LibAnswers server issues.

That is my observation as well from accessing our LibGuides site, it is slow in loading because it has LibAnswers widgets embedded.

Temporarily removing the LibChat widgets from one of our guides seemed to speed up the load time.

Things are better for us, and after looking at our list of LA widgets, those were only on a few guides. Puzzled as to why other guides were impacted, but things are back for us as well.
